Working group meetings at the lake Dümmer

Working group meetings at the lake Dümmer

For the concluding year of LimnoScenES support, we kicked-off a series of working group meetings for the stakeholders at the lake Dümmer in June 2022. After several online meetings, the need was expressed to collaboratively plan in person the next more practical steps which build on visions discussed in the scenario building workshop series. For now, three different work groups were created to develop a transformations concept and a stakeholder exchange platform:

  • working group transformation concept (policy brief)
  • working group financial support
  • working group exchange platform

On June 22, 2022 we held the first working group meeting for the group of the transformation concept in a guest house in Hüde. Hüde is a small village in the district of Diepholz on the east edge of the Dümmer lake. In the beginning we presented a short summary of the last workshops and a timeline for the rest of the year.

Also, we introduced the concept of a policy brief. A policy brief is a short paper about the problems and the wishes and requirements of the stakeholder for in this case the lake Dümmer, which will be given to politicians and other governing institutions.

In the following discussion the stakeholders had enough time to discuss important aspects which should be mentioned in the policy brief as well as which institutions, people should receive it. Moreover, the stakeholders exchange about current measures to bring the Dümmer lake in a better ecological state. Therefore, awareness around the local residents and farmers has already spread. To start creating the policy brief the members of the working group will meet in the end of September again.

The second working group meeting of the group exchange platform was held in the same guest house in Hüde on June 28, 2022. After presenting a short summary and a timeline for the rest of the year, the stakeholders discussed about advantages and possible features a stakeholder’s exchange platform can contain. Furthermore, a future cooperation with the Dümmerforum is one of the main goals of this working group. For the upcoming months, it is now important to analyse which aspects of an exchange platform are necessary and who should have access to it and under which conditions. The next working group is set for the first half of November this year.

Before another group meeting of the exchange platform can take place, the working group for financial support has to brainstorm which possible options the LimnoScenES project and its stakeholder have, to create such a platform. The working group of financial support will meet soon.
